Slip Into Something More Comfortable

Sometimes I’m really not even sure why I chose to move to Chicago. I’ve been here for just over two years and was choosing between several other cities – including LA and Palo Alto. Chicago ultimately won out for several reasons: Proximity to my family, the strength of the grad program I attended, all the wonderful things everyone says about the city, to name a few.

The weather, however, was not on that list. It’s undeniably the worst thing about living in Chicago and this year has been especially rough (that’s not exactly news to anyone who lives in or around Chicago.)

But there’s one very minor thing about winter that I actually enjoy: that feeling you get when you come home from a long day out of your apartment (long day, trip to the grocery store, same thing) and throw on your sweats, heated booties and a thick blanket. Getting home and getting comfy is pretty much the highlight of most days this season, thanks in large part to a few cozy little finds I’m sharing today. Almost all these items are from brands I don’t love (and aren’t ‘fashionable’ by any means) but when you find something you love, who cares what the label reads?

splendid-heavy-weight-leggingsSpendid leggings: I’m generally not one for leggings – at least when worn in public – but these are amazing. They’re the most lightweight, unbelievably comfortable thing I’ve ever owned. Obviously all leggings are comfortable but these are just so soft and high-quality. They are absolutely worth the price tag. They’re not the most sturdy pair out there, so don’t you dare wear these with a shorter top. My favorite way to wear these? Layered under a pair of jeans for a little extra warmth. They’re really thin so they fit underneath comfortably – and when you get home, all you have to do is peel off your jeans and you’re ready to lounge. So perfect.

Forever 21 Pre-Workout Hoodie: Forever 21 has surprisingly good activewear. Who knew? If you’re an exercise junkie, investing in ‘performance activewear’ from like Lululemon or whatever might be a good idea. If you’re more like me, (read: definitely not a gym rat) the cheap stuff will do. I recently picked up a hoodie similar to this one and I love it. It’s extremely comfortable and the fit is pretty great. It’s something I wear around the house and while running errands. I love the fact that it was cheap, mostly because that means I don’t have to worry about spilling food all over it while I binge on ice cream and watch bad TV.

juicy sweats

Juicy Couture Terry Track Pants: Juicy sweatsuits faded out of style a long time ago but these pants will always have a special place in my heart. I think they’re even more comfortable than boyfriend-style sweats. They fit so well and last forever; it’s easy to see why they reached cult status years ago. I know everyone says they’d never be caught dead in one of these suits ever again but if I’m flying for more than eight hours, you can bet I’m wearing a pair of these. Just not with the matching hoodie. Although those hoodies were my jam back in high school.

sleep shirt

Victoria’s Secret Sleep Shirt: You probably have the heat cranking in your apartment because if you don’t you freeze. Then you get in bed and you’re burning up under those covers. Avoid this issue by investing in a few ‘sleep dresses.’  So much breezier, not to mention easy to slip into when you get home.

Ugg slippers: You know how comfortable Ugg boots are. Just imagine wearing those lined slippers all around your house. Yeah, it’s good.

XPress Spa Luxury Travel Blanket: I have to have a blanket on my couch at all times and I’m very picky when it comes to choosing one. This one is soft, thick, plush and super easy to roll up for travel. It just feels so luxurious.
